Apache Junction
Apache Junction, located just 35 miles directly east
of Phoenix, lies at the base of the Superstition Mountains,
where it forms the gateway to the Tonto National Forest,
the Superstition Wilderness, the famed Apache Trail,
the Old West Highway and the Salt River Chain of Lakes.
The town was founded in 1950 and incorporated in 1978.
It is 36+ square miles in area, with 40% developed
and 60% vacant land. A total city planning area of
55 square miles will dedicate 15% to parks and other
open spaces.

Apache Junction’s population in 2002 was 33,095,
with the median age 44.1 years. The city’s unemployment
rate is only 5.2%, with its two largest employers
being the Apache Junction Unified School District
and The City of Apache Junction.
Apache Junction’s slightly higher elevation
and wide open desert areas make it somewhat cooler
in temperature than its neighbors. This makes it an
ideal home to the many developments and accommodations
to serve retirees and the large population of winter
visitors that Arizona is known for. The median new
home price in 2000 was $77,546. Superstition Foothills,
an 870 acre master planned community, calls Apache
Junction home.
Apache Junction has grown from a small town with
a fascinating history to a city with an exciting plan
for its future.
